HighEd Web Digital Accessibility Summit 2024
In July of 2024, I was honoured to volunteer as Program co-chair for the HighEdWeb online accessibility summit of over 400 registrants!
For a full a day of online presentations, I was prepping, organizing, reassuring, and being the undisputed number one fan of my group of presenters in the online platform, chat and Q&A section.
Afterwards, a supportive pat on the back in the Slack channel as I'm prepping the next session presenter and keeping a close eye on logistics and communications for any incidents and requests.
It was a thrill and the culmination of months of gratifying volunteer organization for a cause that is closely aligned with my values of facilitating accessible and enjoyable (digital) experiences for all.
My two other Program Co-chairs were unbelievably supportive and encouraging. Huge thanks to Lori Packer and Carolyn Schoenian for the patience, motivation and perseverance at every juncture of the learning curve.
The Accessibility Summit program was nothing short of fantastic! Thanks to the stellar presenters who donated their time and energy to preparing insightful sessions, along with all the support of the organizing committee.
Program co-chair responsibilities ︎︎︎
- Recruiting conference submissions and conducting a blind selection of the 1-day accessibility program
- Communications between external sponsors, speakers & internal committees & platform administrators
- Selecting and managing day-of communications with keynote speaker, Jutta Treviranus
- Co-moderator and co-coordinator of the online colloquium
This was an all-hands-on-deck endeavour, and our collaboration was gracefully managed by Accessibility Summit Chair, Joyce Peralta and HighEdWeb's Executive Director, Sara Clark, both of whom I am proud to have worked with this year and frankly in awe of their expertise and commitment.
